Presidents of India
Dr. Rajendra Prasad (1884-1963): Independence activist. [26.1.1950-13.5.1962]. The only president to serve for two terms in office. He was an independence activist.
Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975): A prominent philosopher, writer, vice chancellor. [13.5.1962-13.5.1967]. His birthday is celebrated in India as Teacher’s Day on 5 September.
Dr. Zakir Husain (1897-1969): Vice chancellor. [13.5.1967-3.5.1969] nominatedas a member of the Upper House of Indian parliament in 1956 ;died on 3 may 1969, the first Indianpresident to die in office .
Varahagiri Venkata Giri (1894-1980): [3.5.1969-20.7.1969 and 24.8.1969-24.8.1974] Acting President of India 1969, Vice President of India 1967-1969.
Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (1905-1977): Served as a Minister. [24.8.1974-11.2.1977] elected to the Rs (1952-1953), to LS 1967 and 1971.
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy (1913-1996): The first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh state and the only MP from the Janata Party. [25.7.1977-25.7-1982]
Giani Zail Singh (1916-1994): Chief Minister of Punjab, and Union Home Minister in 1980. [25.7.1982-25.7.1987]
R. Venkataraman (1910-2009) - Served as Minister of finance and industry and later as minister of Defence. [25.7.1987-25.7.1992]
Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma(1918-1999)- Chief Minister ofMadhya Pradesh ,andthe Union Minister for Communications. He also served as the governor of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra. [25.7.1992-25.7.1997]
K.R. Narayanan (1920-2005): Served as India’s ambassador to Thailand, Turkey, China, and United States of America. He was also a chancellor in several universities besides being the vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. [25.7.1997-25.7-2002]
Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam (1931): Scientist who played a leading role in the development of India’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program ,a writer and a motivator [25.7.2002-25.7.2002]
Smt. Pratibha Patil (1934): The first woman to become a President of India. She was also the first female Governor of Rajasthan. [25.7.2007-25.7.2012]
Pranab Mukhrerjee (1935): The 13th President .Rajya sabha member-1969, 1975, 1981, 1993, and 1999. Lok sabha member from Jangipur-2004, 2009.
